RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTS

Cayman is rightfully known as the "Culinary Capital of the Caribbean"! You will be able to find: fabulous fine dining restaurants in Cayman, often with wine pairing; sushi restaurants for the Japanese food lover; great steakhouses; a real variety of local Cayman Islands restaurants serving both Caribbean food and traditional Caymanian dishes; and many other restaurants to enjoy.

Away from the Seven Mile Beach masses, Kaibo defines barefoot escapism and romantic dining. The quickest way to get there is by boat, although the drive by road is scenic. There are two restaurants, Kaibo Beach Bar and Kaibo Upstairs on the first floor.

The rustic Caribbean Beach Bar surrounded by coconut palms invites you to relax on a double lounger under shady cabanas. Local fish, salads, wraps and entrées hot off the grill are served daily. Tuesday night Caribbean BBQ has local live music, limbo dancing and rum punch specials with an eat all you can BBQ buffet. Monthly ‘Luna Del Mar’ full moon dinner includes DJ chill-out music and a paper lantern display.

CABOOSE

Local/Caribbean

(345) 947-8899

Grand Cayman - Eagle Bar and Grill restaurantThis small local restaurant is a gem on the Northside of the island. It may look unappealing from the outside but the food is great and the owners friendly and gracious. We all had grouper prepared with different sauces. It was fabulous and very tasty. Also fresh lemonade to drink made for a wonderful lunch.

This casual outdoor dining spot. Smallish menu on a white board to order at the window to go or a menu to sit down and eat. Picnic tables under a covered pavilion.  Great local food, homemade kitchen type place. The chicken curry is one of the favorite of so many tourist and it was excellent! Great prices and friendly fast staff.

Casual, affordable, off the beaten track, and with great flavor and variety. Staff was friendly, food came fast. Loved the fish and chips.

OVER THE EDGE

Steakhouse/Seafood

(345) 945-9568

Cayman Island - Over The Edge RestaurantOwner and Head Chef – Ron Hargrave, who hails from Down Under has created a mouth watering menu, combining the freshest local seafood with an authentic Australian flair to create an amazing dining experience for the whole family. Located just foot steps from the ocean of East End in the beautiful Cayman Islands.

Come here for an ambience that’s the opposite of what you’ll find at the glossy venues of West Bay Road and downtown George Town. This remote and raffish restaurant is something of a mecca for residents of the sparsely populated North Side. A raucous crowd at the bar greets you at the entrance. Inside, the dining room walls block out sometimes-ferocious winds that batter this place during storms. Outside, you’ll find a wharf-style terrace whose pilings extend straight down into the seabed. The views from the terrace have been described as mystical, especially on calm, moonlit nights. Lunches are relatively simple, focusing on Cayman-style steamed fish, pan-fried conch steak, turtle steak with port sauce, sandwiches stuffed with either tuna or mahimahi, and chef’s salads. Dinners are more elaborate, featuring charbroiled rock-lobster tail, lobster thermidor, savory jumbo shrimp in Pernod sauce, grilled wahoo, and grilled breast of chicken with Dijonnaise sauce. Though most of the regulars seem to stick to beer, visitors often order the house drink, a creamy chocolate Mudslide-type concoction priced at CI$7 (US$8.75/£4.20)

CHICKEN CHICKEN

Wood Roasted Chicken

(345)945-2290 (Press 2)

https://www.chicken2.com/

Cayman Island - Over The Edge RestaurantThe chicken is in the name for a reason, and the amazing rotisserie is worth the price of admission alone. They do occasionally overcook the birds and render the breast meat dry, but in my limited experience they get it right more often than not. The gravy they serve with it adds a little juice when necessary too.

You will love: the fresh jicama slaw, the pesto pasta salad, and the spicy crisp vegetables. The Caesar salad is surprisingly good too.

The sides that are fine: the rice and beans (very little beans, no sauce to write home about), the wild rice pilaf, and the carrots. I'm going to drop the cookies here too, as they leave a lot to be desired.

All in all, a solid piece of our Caymans experience

Grand Cayman - Eagle Bar and Grill restaurantEagle Rays Sports Bar & Grill at Compass Point Dive Resort in East End doesn’t discriminate between divers and landlubbers. All are welcome to pull up a chair, marvel at the view, and sample a delicious range of international light fare.

Eagle Rays opened its nonexistent doors in July 2013, and thanks to an enviable location 40ft above sea level, patrons are witness to a 180-degree vista of aquamarine water with waves breaking on the reef and dive boats coming and going from the dock. Home of the LION-FISH Taco's! This is Caribbean life at its very best.

CAPTAIN HERNAN

Local and Seafood

(345) 924-4007

Grand Cayman - Capt. Herman Fish FryOn the Eastern shore about 30 minutes from George Town, this local fish fry shack is legendary. You'll smell the fish and oxtail stews which have been simmering all morning as soon as you get out of your car, despite the ocean breezes.

In addition to herbed and fried local fish, they serve surprisingly good fish tea. Go very Caribbean with curried goat or mix it up with sweet and sour shrimp or garlic and lemon shrimp; it's all good. Dessert may include a Caymanian classic, like cassava cake.

CIMBOCO

Caribbean

https://www.cimboco.com/

Grand Cayman - Lighthouse RestaurantCimboco is hands down one of the best casual dining experiences on the island and has been for 25 years! Their jerk chicken sandwich is simply unbeatable, and the jerk pork BLT is a perfect. My go to favorite is the simple & light pasta with jerk chicken. The Roti is flavorful and hearty, and they serve the best Caesar salad on the island. The warm and comfortable Caribbean atmosphere, and open kitchen, adds so much to the experience as you can see the chefs in action. Can't recommend this place enough!

I love this place for breakfast, lunch AND dinner! Very convenient location, great prices and yummy food every time - what more could one want?"Had an excellent lunch! Cobb salad, caesar, and taco soup! Went back another night and had a good dinner, too! "

CHEZZ GRILL

Caribbean

(345) 923-1986

Grand Cayman - Lighthouse RestaurantAwesome spot for a quick bite and some great drinks. The mojito was incredible and it is a cute little spot right off of the main road. Easy to pull and park, have a drink and delicious seafood (recommend the grilled fish sandwich

This place stands out because of the quality of the food for sure! Plenty of Caribbean options of course. One of the biggest differences…the price! VERY reasonably priced on an island where EVERYTHING is way overpriced! We literally got twice the food at half the price of other restaurants on the island.

Great food, great value, great atmosphere, and great service! You must check in at Czech Inn!
