General Informations
AREA AND POPULATION - Cayman Island is made of three islands (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Litte Cayman). The total area is aproximately 100 square miles and the population is estimated at aproximately 50,000 plus. The largest island is Grand Cayman and the capital is George Town, which is aproximately 22 miles long and eight miles at maximun width. The highest point on the islands is aproximately 60 feet plus above sea level.
GOVERNMENT - The Cayman Islands is under British Government and supervised by appointed british Governor by the UK government. As of today Mr. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. As of today Cayman Government by constitution elected Mr. Mc Keeba Bush as the first Premier of the Islands.
CLIMATE - Cayman Islands weather in year round is warm, the temperatures are lowest in January or February ranging from 60F to 85F, rising to a maximum in July and August. Relative humidity generally lies in the range of 68 percent to 92 percent. The rainy season begins in June and ends on November. Hurricane season runs from June to November.
CAPITAL - Grand Cayman, George Town
RELIGION - Predominantly Christian, Protestant, Baptist, and Roman Catholic, there only 2 Catholic church in Grand Cayman, one is Walkers Road known as St. Ignatius and the other is located at West Bay.
TIME - Cayman Islands is on Eastern Standard Time (EST) and does not observe daylight savings time.
LANGUAGE - English
MONEY AND BANKING - Bankings hours are generally 9 AM to 4PM from Monday to Thursday, and 9 AM to 4:30 PM by Friday. Some bank are open at Saturday Bank of Butterfield from Governors is open from 9 AM to 12 PM and CNB from 9 AM to 1 PM. Scotia Bank Hurley's branch are usually open from 9 AM to 6 PM. The exchange rate is US$1.20 = CI$1.0 or usually convert by multiplying 0.82 to US dollar, but US dollar are accepted throught the islands. Automatic Teller Machine are avilable in many location that can dispense US dollars and Cayman Dollars.
BUSINESS HOURS - Most shops and stores are open from 9 AM to 5 PM from Manoday to Saturday. Business and professional offices are open from 8:3- AM to 5 PM from MOnday to Friday only.
GRATUTIES - Customarily in Cayman Islands gratuities or TIPS are paid to hospitality industry personnel who render goood services. The normal is 15 percent to 17 percent of the total service cost. Some establishments add gratuities to the final bill automatically.
DRUGS - Cayman Islands authorities have zero-telerance policy with regards to illegal drugs that includes Marijuana. Anyone found with possesion of illegal drugs will be arrested and taken to court and jail.
TOBACCO LAW - Cayman Islands govenrment as of year 2009 implemented a smoking ban in bars, restaurants, and a number of public places. Smoking is allowed outdoors, as long as it is 10 feet from a building entrance or designated outdoor non-smoking area.
POSTAL SERVICES - There is no house-to-house delivery in the Cayman Islands. The central post office is located at downtown George Town and there are several other post offices throughout the islands. You can buy stamps and use the drop post office boxes at any locations as well as some grocery stores. A number of courier services are also available on Grand Cayman such as FEDEX, DHL, Sprint etc.
HEALTH SERVICE - There are two hospital in Grand Cayman - George Town Hospital and Chrissie Tomlinson Hospital. Cayman Brac is serviced by Faith Hospital. All hospitals are equipped to deal with the most medical emergencies. The emergency number is 911
